Learning Unit
Some components of my Learning Unit demonstrate the Standard 1 sub-standards below:
- Demonstrates growth in teaching strategies in order to benefit from current research and practice.
- Begins each lesson with a short, student-friendly, summary statement indicating the goal of the lesson and the primary benchmarks that will be covered.
- Provides extended resources and activities to increase achievement levels.
Reflection
Through the @ONE Online Teaching Certification Program, I
learned that a unit or module is more than just salient points or chapter notes
from the textbook. An effective learning unit begins with an overview statement
and a list of learning outcomes. Both content materials and learning activities
should directly support the learning outcomes and should not be limited to
materials from the textbook. Open Educational Resources such as Merlot, MIT
Open Courseware, Khan Academy and Ted can be used to create dynamic content and
activities. It is also important to note the duration of a particular unit as well as deadlines for each learning activity.
