Welcome Letter
The Welcome Letter demonstrates the Standard 1 sub-standards below:
- Builds and maintains a community of learners by creating a relationship of trust, demonstrating effective facilitation skills, establishing consistent and reliable expectations, and supporting and encouraging independence and creativity.
- Differentiates instruction based on students’ learning styles and needs and assists students in assimilating information to gain understanding and knowledge.
- Creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that promotes the development of a sense of community among participants.
- Mandates participation by setting limits if participation wanes or if the conversation is headed in the wrong direction.
- Uses best practices to promote participation.
Reflection
The proper way of writing a Welcome Letter is a new concept
that I’ve learned from the @ONE Online Teaching Certification Program. Before,
Welcome Letter was a mere reminder sent to students through email that contains
the instructor’s information and course start date. Now, Welcome Letter is an
excellent way to promote community, participation, high expectations and
support. It gives students a clear picture of their role in the class as well
as the required effort in order to succeed in the class.
