Turnitin
The Turnitin Screencast demonstrates the Standard 3 sub-standards below:
- Demonstrates an awareness of how the use of technology may impact student assessment performance.
- Demonstrates knowledge of resources and techniques for dealing with issues arising from inappropriate use of electronically accessed data or information.
Reflection
Turnitin is a plagiarism prevention service available in BeachBoard. Students submit their papers electronically, and Turnitin compares the text of those papers to the text in billions of other documents on the Internet, in papers submitted by other students around the world, and in commercial databases of journal articles and periodicals. Whenever similarities between the text in a student's paper and the text in an existing document are found, Turnitin highlights those similarities, providing an annotated document showing both the student's paper and the original source.
To discourage plagiarism, I inform my students that Turnitin is enabled for every assignment they submit. Below is a video that shows how I use Turnitin to detect inappropriate use of data or information.
