Traditional Assessment
The Traditional Assessment demonstrates the Standard 5 sub-standards below:
- Creates or selects fair, adequate and appropriate assessment instruments to measure online learning that reflect sufficient content validity (i.e., that adequately cover the content they are designed to measure), reliability and consistency over time.
- Implements online assessment measures and materials in ways that ensure instrument validity and reliability.
Reflection
One of the most invaluable skills I’ve acquired from the
@ONE Online Certification Program is the ability to design a well-written traditional
assessment. I didn’t use objective tests before and relied only on authentic assessments
to measure learning. The class I took on designing effective online assessments
explained the advantages of objective tests on time, scope, speed and
performance. It is especially helpful when feedback is provided because
students get motivation and guidance. I still use more non-traditional
assessments but the objective tests are a good way to review basic concepts
that are ultimately necessary in accomplishing more complex tasks.
