Student Self-Assessments
The Student Self-Assessments demonstrate the Standard 7 sub-standard below:
- Understands that student success (e.g., grade, level of participation, mastery of content, completion percentage) is an important measure of teaching and course success.
- Provides opportunities for student self-assessment within courses.
Reflection
The textbook in my Critical Thinking class is abundant with
thought-provoking exercises. These help my students self-assess their learning
after reading a chapter in several ways. First, they can practice on their own
and I provide the answers at the end of the week. Second, they participate in
the class poll exercises where I use PollEverywhere to send the questions in
their computer screens. Instead of clickers, they use the site to select the
best answer and my slide shows the entire class’ answers anonymously. Third,
they learn while having fun by playing the Jeopardy games I created. In an
online class, they can use the game to practice independently or hold a group
study/game through CCC Confer or Google Hangout.
The textbook also comes with an online learning center that includes multiple choice and true or false questions that students can take to prepare for quizzes. I provide them with additional practice test questions and answers a week before the quiz.
