Workshops Facilitated
The Workshops I Facilitated demonstrates the Standard 8 sub-standard below:
- Understands the value of collaborative efforts to create common assessments among content-area teachers and share assessment results with colleagues to collaboratively plan instruction that will best meet individual student needs.
Reflection
One of the things I find rewarding in the field of
educational technology is the opportunity to always learn something new and in
turn share it to colleagues.
On November 6, I will co-facilitate a pre-summit workshop for Etudes entitled Quality Does Matter: Aligning your Online Course with the Principles of Good Practice. We will share lessons from the @ONE Online Certification Program so other faculty can help students learn the content in online courses while meeting all the Distance Education (DE) guidelines and challenges. We will emphasize the Seven Principles of Good Practice from the Introduction to Online Teaching and Learning course as well as tools from the Building Online Communities with Social Media course to humanize the online classroom.
Last June, I facilitated the VoiceThread pre-conference workshop for the Online Teaching Conference. Participants found the tool innovative and valuable. We discussed how to effectively use it in their online classes and we all learned from everyone’s ideas. One that I found most interesting is to use it as a tool for lecture so that if students have any questions, they can easily add a comment to specific slide instead of another area in the learning management system. Either the instructor or other students can respond and learn from the interaction about the content. This way, although asynchronous, an on-campus classroom lecture experience can be provided in the online environment.
