Netiquette & AUP
The Netiquette Guidelines and Acceptable Use Policy demonstrate the Standard 3 sub-standards below:
- Establishes standards for student behavior that are designed to ensure academic integrity and appropriate uses of the Internet and written communication.
- Identifies the risks of academic dishonesty for students.
- Provides students with an understanding of the importance of Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).
Reflection
On my first year of teaching, I made the mistake of telling my students that they are all responsible adults so there is no need for me to discuss classroom rules. The following year, I did the opposite and saved myself the headache and chaos of classroom management. Setting the stage on the very first day of class on what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior is a must. Going through the @ONE Online Teaching Certification Program, I know better to emphasize Netiquette, Acceptable Use Policy and Academic Dishonesty. These rules and links to detailed information are included in my Online Syllabus.
